Ended Broodies & Their Babies Photo Contest

Pics
Entry #4. I only entered 3 pictures earlier because I was convinced another great moment would come along. Well, I went to close up the coop tonight and found that mama had decided it was time to move her brood out of the nursery nest and up to the roost with the rest of the flock. She encouraged them up there and tucked them safely under her wings. I continue to be blown away at how wonderful this hen is at mothering - seeing that she's only a year old herself and has no experience what-so-ever. If only human mamas could be as confident in trusting their natural instincts. :) (I'm raising some myself and know that mothering can raise doubt in even the most secure moms) These hens can teach us lessons if we pay attention - thank you my big mama hen! 🥰

How sweet! I love this! 😍
BTW, she has 3 chicks nestled in there... and because to a mother's dismay (& joy) there is sometimes one child that's a free-bird at heart, notice the 4th chick up on a wire hanging from the rafters (**the picture of my free spirited chick is not a content entry). Human moms, I know some of you can relate! 🤣View attachment 3515795
I honestly did not expect to see that. Then again, I've may had a chick or two who's tried that.

Here’s Karen, a white silkie mama, with her two surviving chicks the day she and Dwight the roo (half silkie/half Easter egger) moved into the tractor with the bantams.

Aww, what a lovely family! :love :love

You said surviving, if you don't mind me asking, what happened?

Tell Lucille, that I hate her luck, but I can certainly empathize.
One of the saddest parts about her hatch is she had a 100% hatch rate. I gave her three standard-sized eggs, figuring I'd try hatching them under her, and she hatched every single one of them, and they were all cockerels. The poor hen.

I have a question. Are two people from the same family allowed to do entries on separate accounts, as long as two different people take pictures? Or do we have to use the same account?
Thanks.
:thumbsup

I'm no project manager, but I assume since you're different people, it's fine. As long as each person posts photos they've taken, it doesn't matter you're family
