going thru the food spilling most of it in the litter.

Make a cardboard tray to set that red feeder in. Make it big enough for the base to fit in, with sides about 2". This will contain feed in the tray and they can eat it, instead of having it go in the bedding. I did the same thing last time I had chicks, it worked well.
I'm thinking about making the feeder in the thread link below this time. It' keeps the feed from getting real high in the base, which should prevent the feed from being billed out.

Ok, since some are almost a week older i tossed them some meal worms wow!!! Like a bunch of sharks all over the brooder they running.

Do you have chick grit for them?

Wow these chickens grow fast!!

Is it normal for them to dig them selves a hole and bury themselves while taking a dust bath?

I can clearly see the pecking order forming and the golden sex links are brave & friendly not afraid but there is a leghorn that is the boss and is now the largest of the 14 that are left. The Silki seemed to double in size over night.

They can dig prodigious holes, never seen one 'buried'.
IIRC don't you have like 25 years of chicken keeping experience?

Yea, was trying to take a photo but she flapped her wings and poof a chicken not jut a head..

Maybe the pine shavings are too thick?

This is the girl that likes to dig.. silki helps when it can not sure sex!! rather entertaining. But she will blurry her self up to mid back neck or hide under the feeder board I removed 1/2 the litter in the feeding area but she wants to dig to china and will cover herself.And the others like to bury her also!

I did remove 1/2 the litter! now she cannot burry her self and in 2 day's will remove 1/2 again and replace.
