My 2 year old sebright, Amanda, is broody - has been for 3 days. Is she serious? I thought they didn’t go broody? If I get her eggs will she go the distance?
Thanks!

I say go for it! Theres no telling if she will stay or not, but If you want some babies do it. Also do you have an incubator, or a second broody hen, just incase she quits? My 2 year old sebright, Amanda, is broody - has been for 3 days. Is she serious? I thought they didn’t go broody? Thank you! That’s what I was wondering. It’s rare, but Sebrights can go broody. I wouldn’t count on her to take care of the eggs or even go all the way through with it. Even trusted broody breeds can leave halfway through.
Thanks! I suppose we will see in a few days. I don’t have a rooster who does that job lol. So I’d have to get eggs from a neighbor.I have many various large fowl high egg production breeds that aren't supposed to go broody, but my hens never got the memo. The first time a red sexlink hen went broody, I didn't take her seriously either, until she became a stellar mother.

Nearly every single one of my "non-broody breed" broodies have made excellent mothers, but there is no way to know if your Sebright will stay the course until she actually hatches chicks. If you wanna give her the chance, I vote go for it!
Oh good to know! I thought it was rare.It is not at all unusual for Sebrights to go broody. Give her a try if you want some chicks.
That’s sort of the thing… I don’t have an incubator, another broody, or fertilized eggs…. So I’d be putting all my hard acquired eggs in her tiny basket…I say go for it! Then why would you bother? Being broody can be very stressful on a hen and if there are no fertilized eggs that would even hatch, what would the point be?That’s sort of the thing… I don’t have an incubator, another broody, or fertilized eggs….
