I have a Blue Cochin who has gone broody for the second time in a very short time span. Chicks are only 5 weeks old.

So I separated her and made what I thought was a nice nesting box. I moved her into the box with the fake eggs she had been sitting on. That night I took the fake eggs out and put the hatching eggs under her. (We do not have a rooster so I ordered her eggs).

She was mad the next day and wasn’t sitting on her eggs. So I moved her and the eggs to her favorite box in coop with all of the hens and she was happy.

Ive noticed this time she is off the nest more than the first time. The temp range has been 70-85 degrees F.

Are the eggs going to be ok with her coming off the eggs multiple times a day? She is always on the eggs at night.

Is she cooling her body down? She dusts baths in the cool dirt while she’s off the nest.

Other hens sit on the 13 eggs (now 15) while she is off. Is that ok?

I snuck in there and marked the eggs today.

She doesn't sound fully broody. She could be low on reserves. I wouldn't count on her to hatch them. They eggs will die without consistent incubation.

That’s what I’m afraid of.

She certainly acts broody and sounds broody like last time but the weather is so different this time.

First time 20-30 degrees F and snowy.

Now 70-85 degrees F.

Hoping for the best I guess...

A week ago my broody would not come off except for a few minutes to get some water and food. Now, she is taking hour plus long breaks...the weather changed a lot! I have no idea what I am doing (or what she is doing), but I did just want to say when the weather heated up drastically (I live in GA) she was comfortable getting off for longer times. Heck, these eggs could about incubate themselves with the heat. :fl:fl for you!
