Broody Hen Thread!

No chickens around here, so nope! ;P But no ducklings either... In fact, I can't even hear any tapping or chirping. I really, REALLY hope I didn't mess anything up in there when I candled.

Arghhhh I'm so impatient! I hope these little guys hatch. ):
What day is it?

And yes, patience, patience....

Ahahahah  whoops just assumed ahha and candling doesn't do anything to the duck don't worry, they wont be affected by it

Quote: I'm actually not 100% sure, but based on photos, the ones that pipped look right on day 28. Three externally pipped mid-late afternoon yesterday, around 3-5pm, so it's been at least 24 hours since they externally pipped. When I candled all last night, there were others in the nest that looked about 26 days old, and others that looked about 24 days old. Again, this is purely based on pictures I've seen. This is my first time experiencing hatching eggs, and it's my ducks' first time hatching eggs themselves.

This is the chart I've been using:

Now I have a second welsummer broody, who stole welsummer #1's eggs. They're both on the nest, one egg disappeared, so there are four left. Question is, shall I give them both some eggs, or leave them be and have them figure out who's brooding those eggs.

Give them both eggs, but mark them 'A-1,2,3' and 'B-1,2,3' etc. so you can keep track of who's are who's if they start shuffling or stealing them.

Quote: I might do that, actually. I'm just such a softie. Those chickens know exactly how to manipulate me. I may just go out now and stick some under Wellie #1 who is now eggless.
