Hey recently collected eggs for hatching for my hen on Mar 1 and stopped collecting on Mar 12. Originally started with 5 eggs collected an additional 5 eggs for my hen stopped collecting like I said on Mar 12th and she didnt get broody until this past Tues.(Mar 26th) Would the eggs still hatch? This is my first time trying to hatch eggs on my own and trying to get the hen hatching eggs. Any advice would be appreciated, but I know it will be a while before eggs would hatch if they are viable. Do have roosters

The fresher the better....low chance of development with eggs more than a couple weeks old. I'd swap out the egg under her with fresher ones.

You can mark the eggs to. Put an X on them or whatever. So you know which ones are fresh (good eggs). One of mine went broody and at one point at 10 eggs under her. But every time she would get off the nest another chicken would get in to lay. So I never knew the eggs she’d been sitting on from the eggs freshly laid. I finally put an X on all of them and everyday would take out the freshly laid eggs. Eventually 3 eggs hatched, couple days later her and the 3 chicks jumped off the nest. I tossed the remaining eggs in the trash.

I’m hoping another goes broody this year. The easiest way to replenish stock (so to speak).

Candled eggs tonight: 3/3 egg- I see a black spot floating. 3/12 egg- I see a black spot floating. Last egg she laid before becoming broody- I see veins. 3/1 egg- I dont see anything, so plan to throw away. Other eggs some I can see through, but cant tell much and others cant see through which I assume means I will have to eventually throw away. To answer one of the posters that posted on this thread I labeled all eggs with the month and day the egg was laid except the last egg she laid b/c she became broody, so dont think I need to put an x on the eggs also if I have determined an egg is good I will write G on the egg the others I will just throw away into my compost pile eventually. Dont think I can replace any eggs she has stopped laying
