Broody Hen

Hi all. I have a little broody Serama hen who has decided to sit on three eggs. Is it unusual for a hen to go broody in January? I'm a little concerned about her.

Nope, it’s not unusual at all. I’ve had a hen laying on eggs since the last week of December.

It's not unusual but only you know your situation and setup muct decide if it is advisable to allow it to continue.
Do you want more chickens?

Here is an old thread where someone let a broody hen hatch in winter in Michigan, much colder than you will probably see in North Carolina. It is long but you might want to read it.

I know this thread is few months old but I would like to know if the little Serama hatched her eggs. I have a broody Serama right now sitting on one egg. I ordered some chicks that should arrive this week and intend to giver two hoping that will broke the broodiness… However, I would like to move her as she’s sitting on the ducks house. Not sure if all the above will work, but I will try. I did not see her leaving the nest to eat or drink, and we will have like 109F this week.
