So I have lil turkey eggs that are about one week away from hatching.

But, sudden wedding weekend has come up and that's when they are hatching!

So, I have an extremely broody hen that I feel horrible for because she is all broody and we have no rooster, and so my train of though was hey, why not put these babes underneath her and let them hatch out?

It's only 2 eggs, so together they won't be too big for her.

Is it possible?
My main thought is how will she know when to stop turning ya know?
Cause they aren't on like little chicken schedule.

This is a really dumb question but any advice is appreciated.

Signals from within the eggs prompt hen behavior. As the hatching process begins the chick (or poult) will make noises and movements that signal what is happening (you can hear peeping after internal pip and before external pip and the mother answers back). This signals the hen into hatch mode rather than incubate mode

I would think she would hatch them I've heard of others putting other eggs under broody hens, but don't know about turning question. Now that I think of it though. I've also heard baby turkeys aren't supposed to be with chickens. There is some kind of disease the turkeys can get from the chickens, but don't quote me on that. I'm no expert and someone else probably knows more about it than me.

Good to know. I've wondered myself how the hen knows when to stop turning the eggs. :goodpost:

Thank you both!
About the turkey under chickens, the person I've got the eggs from only uses hens and he hasn't had any problems yet so hopefully I won't!
But y'alls advice is much appreciated, thank you!

Interesting and good to know. Not sure where I even got that information or what that person's source was. Good luck.
