Broody in Feb!!!??

Well we had 7 from under the Silver Pheonix that hatched out of 8 eggs, Now the eggs under the white silie have started to hatch. We have 2 so far and one stinker of an egg that she broke (what afoul smell). 5 More eggs under her. Next week is the 14 under the Bantam Cochin. All should be D' Uccle or possibly D'Uccle silkie crosses as the only roosters are D'Uccle. Still waiting to see if any are porcelain D'Uccle.

Congrats Fordmommy!!! Dont forget those pics!!!

Here's the pics I promised. The first pic was taken litterally minutes after coming out of the egg. The next 2 pics were taken about 2 hours after birth.

Trust me. I almost get pecked. But I can see when she's about to and I take me hand away and talk to her. If I mess with her too much, she will try. I also stay away from the front of her and go in by the wing or the butt.

This hen is the one who will peck me in the nesting box. What I do there is pull my sleave down over my hand as I go in to get the eggs. Then when I'm under her, I pull my hand out, grab the eggs, and get out quick. The she's just pecking at my sleave. But sometimes this girl will try to roll the eggs out of my hand. If I don't have a good hold, she can do it.

Plus, she only goes to peck once. It's not like she's trying to hammer you. Just trying to keep her eggies.
