Our silkie, Celia, (who happens to be the only one of our 6 hens who has actually started to lay!) has gone broody. I really want an Araucana or 2 and thought that buying some fertile eggs for her to hatch might be the way to go. How many could she fit? I was thinking of buying 1/2 dozen, is that too many?

how big is her but? I would take some regular size eggs and put them under her. See how many she can cover then order. One of my silkies is smal and 3 or 4 eggs lg breed eggs is enough for her one of my larger silkies can do 6 no problem.

I have one silkie hen that is a perpetual broody she sets and raises 5 at a time.

Ps they are standard eggs she sets.

I have a broody hen right now atop 8 barnvelder bantam eggs and 2 regular size eggs.. They are all developing.. I would recommend 5-8 Full size eggs depending on her size. Heres mine atop 10 eggs.
