Broody??? Too Funny!! *PIC ADDED* Pg. 7

Yes she needs a name if she does. How about Big Mama.

I thought about that tonight. Two of the meaties have names - Grace and Hope - but it's hard for me to tell the others apart unless I look real carefully.
She's still sitting. Gonna try to get a pic of her tomorrow.

Put colored twist ties on their legs or get those colored spiral bands. Just make sure you get them big enough so they stay loose. Cutler Supply has them and has a chart to tell you which size to get, but I don't have a clue what size would be right for your meaties. Their chart is good for hens but it does not work for roosters. You'd need to go a couple sizes bigger for roosters than their chart shows.

For this one, maybe call her Silver since she is the silver lining in that cloud of meaties. Big Mama works too. Maybe Mrs. Claws since she gave you a Christmas present, we hope.

I bought some colored zip ties with the notion that I would put them on the meaties, but still thinking about it. I worry...will the other chickens peck at the meaties legs?

I have decided to name her Mercy. There's a theme going.

Yeah, you are right, Zip ties, not twist ties. I messed up again.

I have used zip ties and the spiral bands and never had a problem with others pecking at them. I know your chickens are "special", but you should be OK. Just make sure they are not too tight and cut off the flopping end.

I was going to wait until you were sure she was broody and start a thread for us to name her for you, but Mercy it is.

Good luck with the zip ties. I zip tied 3 of them and they had them off by morning. Stinkers.

She's still on the nest tonight. I've seen a pattern develop with her. She waits until just before I close up the doors for the night, gets up, gets something to eat and drink, and then returns to her nest.

One of my SFs is not a happy camper. The now broody nest was her favorite nest too.

Mercy, Mercy!

Finally I found the broody thread!

Mercy - what a fantastic name for a wonderful girl - a thankful girl who is ready to show how grateful she really is.

I would give her 12 also, but also put some eggs in your bator

- this way, just in case something happens to the eggs she is on - you will have a couple chicks to plop under her (I would add them to her clutch even if she hatches chicks).

How exciting
