Brown Red bantam Sumatras?

If it's an "almost" black face, what other color is showing if it's not red? Anything other than black is going to be red or influences of red.

His face is really dark mulberry. Check your Standard of Perfection, mulberry is the standardized face color for sumatras.

Okay I just checked my Stardard of Perfection (and it was pointed out to me by ChinaChicks1) that sumatras should have a gypsy colored face. But it still isn't completely black.

could be both truthfully.. different people working on them.. one chooses leghorn, other chooses yokohamas, Eventually the lines meet and you have white "sumatras" Which are sumatra-leghorn-yokohamas

It's a beautiful bird but it has a ways to go before it's a Sumatra. While I'm not offended by all the new colours that keep popping up I do agree that it's a shame we're losing several heritage breeds/varieties due to lack of interest.
I heard recently that there are currently 125 named varieties of OEGBs in various stages of development. I think the ABA recognizes 40 some now-that seems like enough to me.
BTW-the APA does not recognize White Sumatras-does the ABA?

I took another photo of him today. I had more time to let him settle and get back his natural posture. This is more like what he usually holds his front end like, not upright like the last photo.

does he look OEG still? If so, what traits are most glaringly un-sumatra? I have looked at several sites and the "look" of sumatras seems to vary quite a lot from breeder to breeder. What breeder's site has the look of the true droolworthy, most typey Sumatras?

Yes ABA recognizes White Sumatras.....I was sure APA did too.....are you sure they are not in the SOP...they used to be.
