I received 14 buckeye eggs in the mail today and they all arrived safe and sound. Currently they are sitting out, resting and adjusting to room temperature. I will be putting them in the bator in the morning. This is my second attempt at hatching...hopefully this one will be much better. Last time only two out of 12 hatched. The wife was quite upset about the ones that didn't even pip.

ETA - the first hatch was EEs and BCMs...

I put 11 more of my eggs in the incubator on 2/28 and candled last night and had all 11 well developed with chickies swimming around. I think I am going to have to add on to my coop

We started out with 10 chicken 4 bantams and 6 standard. 2 of my bantams are roo's and have decided they can't get along so I have to get rid of one. Then I went to the Ohio National and got 2 LF Buckeyes and a trio of bantam Buckeyes to start with and then I bought an incubator while I was there cause I wanted to hatch some and I did when my bantams started laying. Then because they weren't laying much I ordered some Buff Orpington eggs and some Ameraucana eggs to really test out my incubator. Then I ordered some Buckeye eggs from Laura, then some from JamesA and to make a long story short I now have 51 chickens of various ages and 11 in the bator. What happened?

Thanks sekinkead! I put the eggs in the bator this morning, 14 buckeyes. I have 5 EEs in the brooder. I have ordered a dozen Wheaton/Blue Wheaton Ameraucana eggs to be delivered in May. I'm building my coop now, 10x10, but I'm thinking it might not be big enough! LOL

You're right, it probably won't be big enough. Take the advice that everyone gives and build it bigger than you think you need, that way you will have room for more.

My Buckeye's are 4 weeks old and I can't believe how fast they are growing and what a wonderful personality they have.

Well, my Buckeyes are 3 weeks old and I am really liking them so far.Very friendly with great personalities. They are unlike any chicks I have ever raised before.
I can see why they have become the favorite breed of many who have raised them for awhile.

I am out of town, but yesterday my husband put about 50 eggs in the hatcher, so I should have chicks by the time I get home, yay!

Congrats Laura!!! I have 11 that will go on lockdown on Thursday. So I will have some more as well. I will be putting the incubator away for a while after this. I have been hatching since early December and am now building more space cause I have no where to put some of these new babies. I hope the weather stays nice.

I put 14 eggs in the bator on the 11th and this is my second attempt at hatching so far this year...I can't believe today is only day 5...seems like they've been in there for a couple of weeks now! LOL
