Laura,

We added a new cockerel yesterday. I say "we"...Jahdan (9) bought one of yours from Jen. It looks real good. Beware folks at the Spring Livestock Show in Little Rock. Jahdan will be bringing "Abe"!

Uhh... Jen Scott won Best of Breed Buckeye at the American Poultry Association 2010 National in Shawnee, Oklahoma with a good showing of Buckeyes. All of our birds are from her flock. Her flock is a mixture of McCary, Haggarety and Puthoff birds. These are Urch, Rhodes, Brown and ALBC lines.

Hey guys, quickie question and I bet I know what you will answer~
I have Cornish Cock Bird and want good meaties to HATCH so I put him over 1) a white rock hen ...or
2) a buckeye hen

And she will lay cornish Cross chicks which I perpetually hatch & bar be que.
Sound like a plan ?
So, here is the stupid question:
Rock or Buck hen ?
I bet the Buck X Cornish would make SPECTACULAR meat birds...I want the meaty pen away from my SQ birds...any culls can get tossed in there as well.

Another avid booster is Brenae Hall of the Hall Family Poultry Farm in Monticello, Arkansas. President of the Drew County 4-H Poultry Club, Brenae shows Buckeyes in both 4-H and open competition. Big, gentle Buckeyes are ideal fowl for youthful poultry buffs to show and raise.

It is very nice. I just got off the phone with Mr. Rhodes. I told him that the buckeyes are doing great and are getting popular.

I would put him on both...more fried chicken!

Yes, I think I will, and then see which birds produce a better barbie, roaster or fryer..but I am thinking the buck hens with the Cornish over, hopefully the Cornish Cock can reach his target
