If it weren't for you people I would be getting 50 cornish X to raise and butcher in a simple little tractor this summer. Just simply re-order next year.
Now I'm intrigued by the thought of 1800's Ohio chickens being bred for meat here on my family farm that was established in 1860. I've got more to learn though. I don't really get this whole breeding deal, and already have EE's I like and Ameraucanas on the way, and oh yeah, I want some BCM's too.
At least I'll have anoher year before I have to make any set breeding decisions.
So the ALBC strain is the largest??? I am wanting the buckeye mainly for the meat use, but if they are good mousers maybe I can get rid of my cat that runs around killing woodpeckers and nuthatches.
Laura: just wondering where your old family farm is in SE Ohio... and my fiance just got back from saskatoon... small world, centered around the buckeye of course.
I'll try not to pipe in too much before I'm an official buckeye owner... and just so you know, I'm blaming all of you when I break it to the boss that I'm getting a mess of free range meat chickens.
