OSUman: Chris i think i got some fast maturing chicks because mine are 3 weeks and they look alot more feathered then your 4 week olds in the pic .
here are mine at 3 weeks

Yeah my 4 week olds look awfully young, don't they? I think I labeled a pic or two of chicks wrong. Those I have labeled 4 weeks should be younger (not sure- probably 2 weeks or so). The older birds I labeled but the chicks I did not (when I uploaded them).

I edited that one pic-- That being said, yours still look more like 4-5 weeks old.

Pathfinders: The color is a little weird, as his legs are much yellower than that in person, and his tail is showing weird highlights that it doesn't have, plus he's not quite that shiny.

I've noticed it is difficult to get good color pictures in the show halls (i.e. the right color)-- the flash, the lighting, etc. makes it come out weird. The pics I took of my cockerel in Columbus showed those same highlights in the tail that weren't there. Your picture does show the great type of your cockerel & that is what folks need to take from the picture.

That would likely be Bob Rhodes. Older, has no computer, just a regular phone. I saw him at the Northeastern Congress show last weekend (although he did not bring birds.) Bob has been breeding Buckeyes for 40+ years.

Pens for teenagers, I am going to have to come up with some of those soon. I could do the cardboard box thing if my husband would let me put them in the garage. I have had chickens in there off and on for the last 8 months. He put his foot down and said he wanted his garage back.

oh! You mean for adolescent chickens!? I thought someone had finally agreed that teenaged boys and girls should be penned.

Laura; Thanks for the info on the little... studio. I will investigate that in a couple weeks.

Anyone; Speaking of legs, is it normal for an almost reddish line in the leg when they are so very deep yellow? Or is this a trait from some other breed that creeps in once in awhile?

Thanks for any knowledge or input.

The reddish line down the shank (usually seen only in males) is a sign of vigor and virility. Means the boys are ready to go.

It's a good sign, so don't worry about it.

Hi everyone,

I have read thru all 60+ pages on this post and have made up my mind that Buckeyes are in my near future. I first heard about these last year and thought that since I lived in Ohio for all of my life, but the last 10 years, it would be nice to add them to my flock.

Unfortunately, I don't have an incubator, so I would have to order the chicks. Does anyone know of a breeder closer to Arizona?

Thanks!

Angie
