Delivery has been rescheduled for the 1st of APril.

Cornish x chicks are very fast growers, eating far more than other birds so the grow faster, so the eat more, so they grow faster!! You get the idea. They are about 25% bigger than the buckeye chick!

THis egg came from Annette, and the sire is her Mr Naughty, on a Gilbert hen.THe chick was a yellowish red. I"m not sure how this translate into adult feather coloring. THe wings are feathering in and the color look right. I don't question ANnette, rather I question what I know , lol, as the more I know the less I know, or somthing like that!

Hopefully the weather will be good for everyone by then it's not that far off.

I know what cornish rocks are and I have explained them to my DH he just is not interested I guess.

I do not know the person or her Mr. Naughty. I hope your chick turns out to be a great BUCKEYE for you!

Thank you Gusser, but I am moving away from hatchery stock and looking for better quality.

I am getting them from a breeder who is highly recommended by DOn Schrider. DOn headed a project that was designed to envigorate the buckeyes by combing several lines and then carefully selecting the breeders birds over several generations. Selecting for growth, temperament, and vigor and type. THe hatcherys often don't have time for such careful selection. THat became the ALBC line.

I beleive that Urch line buckeyes was also introduced by this breeder to mix with his ALBC line.

Chickadoodles-- Annette goes by Apdeb here on BYC. I was talking to Jason Page when she joined the conversation ( at Northeast Poultry Congress) and offered a buckeye egg to me. Very nice of her.

For my records I asked for the bloodlines: mother is a Bob Gilbert pullet -- placed 3rd at NEPC and the male was ( her?) Mr. Naughty, champ cckl (NEPC), if I am understanding her short hand.

Chris M sent a pm last week and I confirmed my mailing address and phone numbers by email. He has been very thorough getting all the details right and communicating with me about the shipment.

In the email confirming shipment has been made and a copy of the shipping label he included a detailed list of the breeding behind each group. WOW. I had asked for toe punches and he went the extra mile with breeding backgrounds of each.

Shipping information indicated a next day delivery which was so different than a month ago when we could only get 2 day shipping for express which caused a delay in shipping of course because the weather was horrendously cold. BRRRRR. Yesterday was a true spring day with warm and sunny skies in the 60's and today is starting out the same. Horray. Praying for a safe trip for those wonderful chicks.

Tried calling PO yesterday at 4:30 but I"m sure the overload of customers kept them from the phone. Called about 8 am today when I know the windows are still closed for sorting and they are now on the look out for my chicks. Likely to be the noon truck but could also be the later truck. We agreed I would call at 1 for an update. Love love my post office.

THe waiting is killing me. Will keep busy prepping the brooder box.

I am realizing now why breeders keep duplicate books-- once info is gone there is no retreiving it. Time to start a hard copy file on the buckeyes.

One group is not toe punched at all. ANd my first chick is not toe punched from ANnette. Gess the latter will get leg bands.

Time to invest in a GOOD toe punch.

At 1:15 I called the PO-- truck had just arrived, can I hold on a moment. NO chicks. Anxiety rising!!

Next truck is scheduled for 5:30-- when I need to be 2 other places of course. BUt chicks come FIRST!!

Called at 5:40-- no chicks.

Next truck arrives at 5:30 to morow morning and another about 7am. No wonder the USPS is broke.
