Budgies!!

Do male budgies help care for babies?

My budgie is quite insistent on trying to get to the baby chicks (chicken) every once in a while when they start peeping loudly (because they stayed out from under the heat plate too long and think they're freezing to death).

Just hoping it's not a sign of a female, as I do want a male. So I'm hoping male budgies also care for babies.
They do. Like the only difference is that females will lay eggs, but aside from that most parenting is the same. A lot of the time the males get the food for the female though.

To make it easier, I'm going to refer to my budgie as male for the time being.

He's all feisty this morning because he wants more millet, but I won't give him any because I'm pretty sure he has eaten little to none of his regular food. He is, of course, not happy about this. He is now searching the bottom of the cage (which he can't even reach because of the wire floor) for any remaining bits he missed/dropped.

He's still not eating his regular food, and it's the food he was being fed at the store. He eats millet without question, but is starting to act ill (I just gave him some millet because of this, so he has something in him). He has no interest in fresh fruits and veggies, either.

I had trouble with my parakeets only eating seed. I have tried like everything to make them eat other things but they just don't want to. Does your food have a lot of seeds? They might just be looking for seeds. They could even be shy to eat when you are around.

When mine was this little guys age that's all he cared about too (the millet) but as he matured he tried new things. Then his likes and dislikes will develop and it will be fun to observe what your parakeet likes. If it's not eating when you're around it's possible he's not quite there yet. Mine wouldn't eat around me but now he tries to eat out of my mouth while I try to stop him.
