Buff Dewlap Toulouse Thread

Hello everyone,

All those pictures are good looking goslings, my Embdens are doing well and getting big, they are aproaching 7 & 8 weeks now, and one of them has started showing a nasty attitude. But she's one of the two who had gotten attacked by my daughters dog awhile back.

Anyway, I'm sure this was addressed before but my question is, "What is the differance between the regular Toulouse geese and the Dewlap Toulouse geese. Granted the term
"Giant Dewlap Toulouse" says it all but are there any other differences?

I'd love to have a few of the Giant Dewlap Toulouse to go along with my Embden's.

toulouse from sources like Metzers are production type birds and not as large as Dewlaps. Some would beg to say that hatchery/production toulouse are a cross bred utility bird for farm/meat use.

Dewlaps are LARGE (jumbo) slow growing birds who dont reach their maxium growth until 3 years of age.
While the production variety are filled out in a year.

Because of their size Dewlaps do not cover as much open grazing space as a production toulouse does in any given day.

Dewlaps are known for being very calm, slow moving, easy going geese.

Hi again, I had visited your web page but can't seem to get the waiting list to open up so I can add my name to it.

My greys dewlaps seem to be growing fast but my one buff is growing slow. I just love the Toulouse breed so switching to the dewlaps was a no brainer for me. I have one that knocks on my door for extra snacks so I had to place a gate on my porch. I noticed the dewlaps are not as "curious" as the standard Toulouse :) I hated locking them in a pen but I was afraid they might tear out my phone lines off the house but they haven't. :D They don't wander the yard as much as standard Toulouse and they won't go to my chihuahua and pick on him when he's out in his pen. Love this breed!

My flock is showing some development.

Josephine not much going on. Yearling.

Louis is a yearling gander

Fell off one of the girls last year and wing never properly healed.

Marie is showing some development as a yearling

Napoleon is a 2 yer old goose, she's slow with molting.

Very nice pics, Psue! I would not be surprised if Josephine starts developing soon. My two buff yearling girls have been changing dramatically the last couple of weeks, developing dewlaps and keels that did not exist before they started molting. It has been great fun watching them bloom into beautiful ladies this summer.
