WOW!

I've been out of the loop for a Looooong time! So excited to see a thread totally devoted to Buff Dewlaps! Celtic and Pete....I'm so sorry for not getting back to that ER post I made a while back... Gonzo went to the vet that Monday morning and was in perfect health! I love my geese almost too much I think and panic with just the slightest odd noise or behavior. It's taken me a long time to get to the point where I can afford these beautiful creatures and I'm sorry if I overreacted a bit. This is going on my third year with my dewlap babies and I've learned a LOT thanks to all of you, as well as the hands on experience. Anyway...I'm SO tickled to announce that Gonzo is doing his job already as I've got fertile eggs in the bator now! I didn't really expect him to do "the job" this season as he's not even a year old yet but he's on it! I'm expecting Buff and Grey goslings in the next few weeks! This will be my very first season of breeding and hatching from MY OWN birds! Needless to say, I'm very excited as Gonzo is a real looker and is only getting better looking as time goes on. I'm waiting for a pretty day here and as soon as I get one, I'll go out and take some more pics. Sadly, my only camera at the moment is my hubby's cell phone as my good camera was dropped and busted! Arrrggghhh! Anywho, I hope that everyone on this thread has a very successful hatching season!

I'm confused.....

was getting one egg a day out of the buff pen. Then got 2 eggs in one day assumed that I had 3 girls. Well I divided the Buffs into 2 pens so I only had to worry about one haveing fertile eggs. WELL now I'm getting one egg per pen. So Might only have two girls anyway, lol

so today..... Napoleon layed an egg..... she just layed one yesterday... I wonder if these two (line?) have like a 40 - 44 hour cycle or something

. She's been laying since Feb. 19. 10 eggs all on the odd numbered days, Then layed today

Josephine layed her first 7 eggs all on even days Starting Feb 20. Then layed on the 4th & 5th of March and has been on odd days since.

My birds have been holding out as much as possible. The sebbies were laying one a day (back and forth) and when one laid two days in a row, I thought I had three girls, but now I'm no sure. I keep seeing them walking about in pairs, playing with hay and what not. I loaded up several potential nesting locations with straw, and now every day I'm digging in it all looking, but still just the one occasional egg.

No African eggs. No Toulouse eggs.

One turkey started laying however. She and my lone ancona girl seem to be sharing a nesting site.

My girls are doing the same thing...Girtie one day, Gabbie the next...then they both stopped for three days (it got really cold here all of a sudden) and now they're back at it again..Girtie yesterday, Gabbie today! I've got 12 growing in the bator now! I'm TERRIBLY excited about these babies! Can't wait to see pics of everyone's babies!

maybe it is this crazy weather... I'm just glad Ikeep track of the eggs layed no matter what I intend to do with them
Me too Paula, I track each and every girl to know if we have a potential problem along the way. Dont need a sudden emergency of being egg bound. (knock on wood we havent had that problem in the past)

I always get worried when they stop or the cycle gets interrupted
