Buff Orphingtons ?? When will I see the first egg?

Finally, finally, finally!!!!    Three of the 6 BO's layed today!!!!!e

Yay!!!!! So exciting!!!!!!

Yippee! So happy for you. I have 2 Buff Orps that are 19 weeks and I am anxiously awaiting their first eggs. I have a BCM that is also 19 weeks and anxious for her first egg too!

My 6 are a little over 7 months old, but my patience finally paid off! Only thing is, I found all 3 eggs on the floor of the chicken coop, together in a corner.... LOL .... with the nesting boxes right above them. Oh well..... you will need to let me know if your 19 wk olds lay any sooner than mine. I have been told that this breed are slow starters when it comes to laying, but it pays off in the end. thanks for the congrats!! I hope to see the other 3 laying very soon, as they are all "sisters" out of the same clutch of eggs.

Buff Orpingtons (it's orPington, not orPHington just so you know) don't lay as well as say a red sex link that was bred for laying only from the start, but do lay pretty well. The ones that are under a year old I have had lay anywhere from 5 to 7 days a week most of the time. After that it slacks off a little. And the older they get, the bigger the eggs. They aren't bad layers at all, they just aren't the top layers.

Didn't mean to be snippy, and I apologize if it came across that way. But there are those that do think the "H" is in there and say "Orfington." Being a public forum sometimes I post things like that so that general population can see and not think it's spelled/pronounced that way. Again, sorry.

Again, appreciate the info on the eggs..... the 3 hens that layed on Saturday didn't lay Sunday or yesterday....

but maybe that's how it all starts???

Yep, that's kinda how it goes. I've had one lay 14 days straight and another that skipped a couple days regularly. But it varies.

Hi ......... Bonnie ........ my 21 week old Buff Orpington just layed her first egg yesterday ...... it was a medium sized egg. She was the first to lay of my 4 yard girls .... the others are also 21 weeks old .. a Black Australorp, a RIR and a Barred Rock.
