Oh no! Is my Leslie Knope really a Ben Wyatt?! Suddenly in the last couple days her comb has become REALLY pronounced and overnight it seems very red. Compared to her sister, she looks completely different. However, her sister was slower to develop. I thought she was a failure to thrive chick but she seems to have caught up mostly. They're 5.5 weeks old. We already know our barred rock is a boy, I most certainly can't have now TWO roos with only 3 hens!! 😭

Oooo, hard to say! I knew my Gerard (Buff Orpington) was a boy at two weeks old (based entirely on his behavior and body language - sweet little bean that he was and still is, he had that rooster swagger :lau ). I’ve had girls with early pronounced combs before, so yours may still turn out to be a pullet :fl.

Well, thank you all for the well wishes at least 😂🤞 she does have a roo attitude sometimes. But she developed just like her sister - pronounced tail feathers right away and all, so I always assumed she was a she. I guess time will tell!

I have the same age, and the same concern.
look how they all started roosting in their brooder last night.

Wait, I just found another thread on the same topic and I feel much better on my chances of my Omelette being a pullet.
lindsey727- please look.

Holy huge comb!!! Woah. That's definitely much bigger and redder than either of ours. But it seems like ours look very similar. I love the name Omelette 😂 is hers reddening at all? My Leslie seems like hers is a little which makes me nervous. 😣

Right- that chicken looks like it has a red Mohawk.
Yes. mine is Getting red especially on the wattle area. However I was thinking that the adult Orpington hens have combs so maybe that not such a big deal. I really don’t know.
