Hello BYC, in a recent post I had mentioned about adding new hens, gold laced wyndottes, to our flock of 6, making our total 9. Well now it's been a few weeks since we got them and about a week ago one of our BOs was acting very weird. Wasn't moving very much and had her feathers all fluffed out. She isn't bloated, it's just her feathers are constantly out. It started with her just sitting outside and not really doing much. She is very alert and moves her head just fine with her eyes wide open. Here in the past couple days she has stayed in the coop and will not go out. We have seen her go out like once each day besides a couple times that we picked her up and forced her out.
So today I go out there and notice that she kind of struggles on the perch inside the coop, getting away from me. I assume it's because that's all she's doing is sitting there and is losing muscle. So I pick her up and put her at the water area. She did not want to put her feet on the ground at all, it could have been because it was raining and the ground was muddy but I feel that wasn't the case because they are usually just fine. So I set her down and she slowly rose up. She got quite a bit of water in her and as she walked away it was very slow and she was waddling like she was bloated but when I picked her up she was just fine, in fact she was kind of scrawny compared to usual.
I also looked into the coop and there was a very bright green poop that I have never seen before. It was pretty much an irish green. I knew it was her because there was a little bit on her butt feathers.
We at first thought it was an inbound egg but when we picked her up and felt her abdomen area/stomache area it was fine, didn't feel super hard. Then we checked her poop shoot and it was squishy and a very light pink like normal
We have medicated pellets in replace of our usual food in hopes she would have eaten it but she doesn't really leave the coop unless we pick her up and put her on the ground. We also just put medication with the medicated pellets. We've tried crushing up some tums and feeding it to them all. We've started spraying them down with anti flee/mites/lice/ticks just in case something broke out. Which when we checked the buff and the new ones I didn't notice any signs of mites.
The reason I brought up the new additions is because I feel like something has gone wrong and I don't know if anyone has ever had this kind of result after adding new additions. The buffs are not taking too kindly about the new additions, especially the "Queen" as she chases them off everytime. I wonder if maybe the pecking order bumped this BO down to like #3 and she is having a fit?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! We thought she was going to get better but after I saw her slowly waddle/move around I knew it wasn't getting better. Is there any medication to fix this that I can force with a small squeeze tube? Or is this something with the pecking order and that I can't fix it?
If this is something to do with the new additions I will give them away or something. I just don't want to lose any of the original girls. I just feel like there's not a whole lot of time left!
