Hi all! I have 3 Buff Orpingtons in my little flock, 2 pullets and 1 cockerel. They are, let's see, just about 5 months old-- hatched April 19. The rest of the flock consists of two mother hens and four of their 2.5-month-old chicks. I've been keeping chickens for about 5 years, but this BO is my first experience with a rooster. He has not started crowing yet. He is easily dominated by the two adult birds of the flock. At what age would he be considered grown or mature? When can I expect rooster behaviors like crowing, and mating with the hens? At what point will his 'adult personality' emerge? Right now he's a total sweetheart, gentle as anything.
