*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Does anyone have both Buff Orpingtons and Astralorps? I have BO's and I'm thinking about adding Astralorps to my flock and curious how you'd compare their personalities? Similar? Would they get along well together? Are Astralorps quiet like BO's?

I would like to hear responses from experienced folks regarding the mixing of these two. My Black Australorp & Buff Orpington chicks will hopefully get here tomorrow, I will be integrating them with Black Orpington, Lavender Orpington, & Blue Orpington...

I was crushed!! I don't know what I'd have done if I lost more than half as you did. Well, I'm glad she's looking like a pullet. That little comb forming has had me concerned. Thanks for your input.
It was hard! and my first batch of chicks too. They had a rough trip, got stuck an extra day then left on my porch, after I called the post office 3 times a day for 3 days.
I'm ordering from Ideal this time so the transit is overnight

I don't know about Australorps in particular, but mine live(d) with Barred Rock, EEs, and a Silkie and did fine :)
I have Australorps, more EEs, Russian Orloffs, and Salmon Faverolles coming in a week so we'll see!

I have both and they are both sweet natured. They have a quite a few similarities which isn't surprising since they have similar breed backgrounds.
Yep! Australorps used to be Australian Orpingtons

Bred from Black Orps I believe. I just read about it the other day. Then they just shortened the name for convenience.

Thinking about getting a chick for my broody lady, Patty (as in chicken patty, I know it's cruel). Would she accept two? Or is one the limit?
