Buff Orpingtons....male or female?!!!

I agree that a lot of the buffs in this post have the pointed saddle feathers and I would lean towards cockerels. But I take a different approach. I would wait until I start getting eggs or I start having a chicken that is displaying obvious rooster traits.

I posted a picture of my buff a while back and I had a lot of people saying it was a cockerel. I decided to wait and see because this was our favorite chicken. I started getting eggs from her a little over a week ago. Here is the picture I posted just to give you an idea.

You have to take a lot of opinions here with a grain of salt. Also, saddle feathers are an obvious rooster trait. Going by comb alone it's easy to be fooled in some breeds, but the saddle feathers won't lie

For the OP and chemie, I'm in the "all cockerels" camp.

The thing with looking at photos on here and going with what people suggest is that what I think is pointed might not be what others think is pointed. I just think that if it is a chicken that you really would like to keep if it is a hen what is the harm in waiting until you know for sure, either by receiving eggs or you have a crowing cockerel trying to mount everything in sight.
