Buff Orpingtons

The age they lay seems to vary from breed to breed, and sometimes from bird to bird, but most start laying in the 18-22 week window. As a rule of thumb, figure around 20 weeks. I know my silkies will be more like 30+ weeks, which should put them late enough for spring babies.

I just got a young hen & roo from someone culling their flock for winter. I'm a sucker for Buff's. These two should make some pretty baby's later in the Spring. They are really healthy looking and are in quarenteen right now. I'm not a pic's person but they are golden, fluffy, with good red coloring and white legs. Can't wait to get 'em out and about with the rest of the gang.

Well I just found out that if you have really good roosters you can get 25 dollars per. At least that is what the guy wanting to purchase our Bar Rock Hens at the fair states. He had pretty roos but I like my Grand Champion better and I did not pay 25 buck for him! But know now I could have gotten that or more. Just starting our Buff fedish I have one full grown hen and Rooster and several pullets growing. I am hoping that those in the pullet stage will be as lovely as my grown ones. There are a few that I have kinda picked out to go in the open show next year. They are already fluffy and bigger than their sibblings. How do you guys pick out your best picks before they lay?
