Does anybody know how often you can (or need to) apply a Pyrethrins type bug spray to pigeons, such as CV-80D? I want to use this stuff on both my loft and birds, but have no idea how often it should be applied to maintain proper efficacy to repel, as well as how often is safe for my birds when applied directly to them.

Also wondering if the efficacy of the product when used directly on the bird, or time period for which it is effective, changes if the bird gets wet from something like a bath.

Thanks

I add borax 2 tablespoons/5 gallons to their bath water. Bugs never seem to be an issue.

I think that gets bugs off them, but I'm not sure it prevents them from buzzing around the loft, does it? It's been wet here, and the mosquitos are terrible right now. I also see tons of gnats of some sort swarming around my yard.

I wrote about this on my blog the other day!
Heres the link!

It works great on my birds and loft, hopefully it'll help you out.

Nice read, thank you for sharing. Only question I have is using it as a bath, I cannot practicably prevent my pigeons from drinking bath water. They almost without fail take a few sips before taking a dunk.

So then if your birds drink their bath water, then just get a little tub of water mixed with the solution. Get a cloth or towel and get it wet and pat their bodies with it, or you can put it in a spray bottle and spray their backs, wings and tails with it.

I put mosquito netting over the coop vents and the big open 'window' on the front.

Worked great.

PS.. for my parakeets and chickens I occasionally wipe down their perches with vegetable oil. This kills any mites hiding in tiny cracks there as they can't breath.

Mine seem to eat any insects they can, except they get feather lice, which "Adams" or "permectrin 11" worked good on under each wing n tail sprayed once. Or just fourth to half vinegar In spray bottle with water, at start of warmest part of day.
