So about a week ago I was cleaning out the coop and saw some little bugs under the pine shavings by the door. I checked a couple of my chickens and didn’t see anything on them, but knew I better clean out the whole coop anyway.
Cleaned out all of the bedding from the coop and nesting boxes. Dusted with poultry/garden dust and put new bedding in.
I also wanted to dust all of my girls but could only get ahold of about half of them.
when cleaning the coop today I found them in the same spot again. Looked at a couple girls, no signs of bugs on them.
I tried to look them up to see if I need to use a different method to kill them, or just resist all of my girls good… but they don’t look like any of the pictures of lice or mites I can find.
Anyone know what these little buggers are?

It could be a darkling beetle which is common around chicken coops. It also looks like a weevil, which I have found in chicken feed or scratch grains from feed bags in the summertime. They do no harm if the chickens eat them. Bith weevils and darkling beetles come in different varieties and sizes.
Thank you. Just wanna make sure they are not going to bother my girls. I haven’t seen anything in the feed…. But either way like I said, just making sure my girls are healthy

They look a lot like rice weevils, brought home a 20 lb bag of rice and unbeknownst to me it was already contaminated from the store so in this case it likely came from the feed.
