Building a hatcher (NEW PICS Pg. 3)

Sounds wonderful! Thanks for filling my curious brain in on all the details.

I bet it will work good! The bottom is huge! You could hatch a lot of chicks with that thing! Sounds like fun!

Looks great. I built one very much like that. The only thing I wish I had done was used a cowling around the fan. I think that is spelled correctly. Both my Dickies and my Sportsman have that. I dont really have a lot of issues with temp, but it would only take a couple minutes to fashion some kind of Tube for the fan to Blow into. I think just some flashing shaped into a Stove pipe like shape. I hope I have explained myself well enough.

I assume they were used on other bators for some fairly good reason.

Good luck

Oops also I dont see any opportunity for air return within the bator. It looks like all air movement will be from vent??

I think that may be an issue for you unles you drill a bunch of holes in your the back of that shelf? I dont think your vent will allow for 400 cfm or whatever it moves to come through your ventilation system.

YOu might be all over that but just my observation.

I hope I dont seem dense, but if you look at the shelf that your water pan is sitting on, I dont think that goes all the way to the back of the bator. I think the fan mounts on that same shelf behind the board with the hole in it?

In the photo of the one you are building it seems like it does go all the way back to the back panel. Which means (in my opinion) that you will not have great circulation within the bator itself.

Again if I am being dense my opolgies.

The red bator works fine, I just can't get it to hold humidity higher than 50%. Yes the shelf the water pan sits on goes all the way to the back panel in the incubator, and also in the new hatcher I am building. The vent holes will be behind the fan in the rear panel, and at the bottom of the rear panel.

I get what you are saying, but it doesn't seem necessary as the big bator has worked fine without it.

just a thought wouldnt it be better to put the heating element on the bottom since heat rises that way youll have even temps through out. instead of hotter at the top an colder at the bottom. but it looks good so far what are you using as a thermostat?
