Building My First Coop

Pics
Thanks for the input. I was thinking I might need it because mine is a lean to, so maybe at the top? You only have downward edges where the water only flows down in one direction...

But anyway, I need to rethink everything because Lowe’s just called and they don’t actually have that other metal panel in stock either, even though the website says “40 in stock” and the order went through yesterday... They said no other stores nearby have it either and they can’t ship from out of state :barnie Why is it so damn hard to find metal roofing around here!?!?

That's a bummer . I've found with Lowes and Home Depot there is no rhyme or reason to their stocking/shipping practices .

Got the hardware cloth up on the run today . I used 1 1/2" galvanized staples followed by 1/2 x 1 1/2" pressure treated strips (ripped a 2 x 4 ) fastened with 6 penny galv ring nails . Not finished yet but getting there . I still need to bury a piece 1' straight down and that will tie into the bottom of what is already installed with screws and stainless fender washers . The masked trash pandas aren't gonna get in here unless they bring a crowbar and a pair of tin snips with em . :D

Finished up the front of the run and the other side with the 1/2" x 1 1/2" PT strips over the hardware cloth .

Didn't get as much done as I wanted to but its so dang hot and humid here today I just went in slow motion .

Cool Air is coming!
Temp dropped here today by about 20° after a few days of humid high 80's.

Man, that door is built like a brick **** house!

Got some chain left over? Make the door a shelf!

I saw the forecast for tomorrow , suppose to be 30* cooler , my kinda weather .

I was a little heavy duty with that door because the boys ( ages 10 , 8 , and 5 ) will be the egg fetchers and I want it to last :D . I do have chain left over and was planing on doing just as you suggest , just want to get the latches sorted first , most likely hasps of some type .

That's the perfect spot for it, too. I've seen other coops on here with nice little decorative details like that, too. Adds a nice personal touch. I'm going to make a painted cutout chicken for mine (mostly I need an excuse to use the router ). And for the interior, I'll ask my 5-year-old to draw a nice big chicken for me and I'll frame it and hang it on the wall.

Framed for hardware cloth on side and back of coop and installed /buried 1' in ground . Far side and front of run will get done tomorrow after I get wife's vehicle oil change done . Then its the predator barrier to lay down and tie into the hardware cloth , I've got 14 gauge galvanized welded wire for that . I also have the hardware cloth over both windows , the edges will be covered with 1/2" x 1 1/2" strips painted white .
