Building Our Coop - Follow Our Progress!

Just about the best work I have seen on a coop so far... WOW!! The nest boxes are the toughest looking construction ever! How many birds are to be put in here? They will need a HOA!

1 question, did you make the posts on a concrete ?

Yes Deb he is a bit of a perfectionist - the angle you are correct - it is the same, good eye! I am going to paint it the color of the house and shutters. I was debating using my shutter color for the whole coop and accenting in the house color but it would be bright. DH says do what you want - still debating that.
CatDaddy that is very kind of you - my husband is not a carpenter but he does have a good vision and some natural talent.
MamaChic the posts are not cemented in but are each in the ground a full two feet. It is already quite sturdy but the walls will sturdy it up more and the run will have a few more side joists when complete. DH swears the cement wasn't needed (I sure hope he is right!!??)

Howwww
That is surely the biggest coop I've ever seen.

Excellent and perfect work. Can't wait to see the rest of the images.

Regards

The coop is 8x8 the attached run is 16 x8. We did the run enclosed because we get a LOT of snow here and we are hoping that the chickens will go outside in the winter if there run isn't full of snow. This is the theory anyway

Deb here is the house colors. I am debating using the shutter color on the entire coop with a white trim and house color as accent. I'm afraid though it will be crazy loud. The other thought is to paint it house color with the egg box and door the shutter color and trim out the doors and vents with white trim. Such decisions!!! Thoughts??

Your nest boxes should not have a vent in them in NH. You will have a big problem with frozen eggs. Besides, your ladies will not want a draft up their backsides while laying!!!!!!

I like the second option on the paint idea. House color, nest boxes and door the darker color and white trim. I think that would love wonderful. Your coop is coming along beautifully. You and Hubby are doing a great job.

KRcote - The vent is on the same wall as the nest boxes closer to ceiling level - it is the rectangle studded out above - it will have a door that will cover it up in the winter - it will help with cross ventilation in the summer. I was wondering if it was ok to have a wall vent like that on the same wall as the nest boxes. It should be ok right? If it ends up being a problem we can just keep it closed I guess.

Mcjessen - that is my thought too - thanks for the input - needed others perspective.

Serenity - southern NH - close to you one town away from the MA border.
