building paradise for the birds

well just cleaning up the backyard and adding sand to the pens...hatched 21 ornemantals...today...red goldens, cinnamon goldens, and silver goldens...cant wait to see them grow...sounds like another one just came out of the shell...chirp chirp..."hey where is everyone"...will take them out on tuesday

Very cool! Congrats on your new hatchers! I am thinking of counting my birds today...Who knows what this day can hold!

Let me ask you...What is your favorite type of bird and why?

i would say the peach golden or the silver golden...one they are hard to find good stock...they dont breed well...they eat very little, they can withstand very cold climate without shelter....that would be for pheasants

for chickens i would say the ayam cemani or svart hona...they are super expensive, all black, and truly amazing to watch compared to every other chicken i have seen....not sure how they are in the super cold winter tho....
silver golden...just got three to hatch today from this stock

peach golden pair

two pics below of the svart honas...as they grow they get such cool sheens to them...they are super dark...pics cannot show how dark these birds are

i might be putting the cemanis and svarts out....this coming weekend....that are from gff...still not sure what im doing with these birds...just emailed gff today as well...was supposed to have something figured out last week...and then no response from them....seems like if you dont bug and pester them then they just forget about you...bummer...you also havnt seen me post really any pics of them...wonder y...no reason to advertise for them...maybe things will change and i will post some pics of them...however no reason to do something for someone if they just leave you in the dust...so to speak...every time i get an email from them they say your on the top of the list, top of the list, top of the list...well im so confused...how big is the top of the list..lol...have to make some kind of joke about it...cause at this point its just ridiculous now...i kept my mouth shut on my opinions for the first couple of months...but approaching 5-6 months now...just to get a couple of birds...question now that i ask myself are they really worth it...starting to have my doubts...anyways...going to be 83 today...and today i am setting some pheasant eggs as well as some peacock eggs....wow...never thought i would see that day

I have never seen a tail on a bird like that before~ Your peach golden! Very cool!

Are those Bryce's birds pictured there as the Hona's? I have 4 eggs due tomorrow...I am praying they hatch. I had one hatch last week and I had to help it...it didn't make it. I will take a pic of my birds for you. I am pretty sure the ones I got from GFF are all roo's. They are def one of my favorite birds too! All mine are still inside. I am nervous about putting them out and possibly losing them.

Okay...Here are some of my crew..
The wind was blowing here...I think this may be my best stud so far...He has all black toes and dark comb and wattles and dark earlobes. What do you think?

This guy has one clear toe...and a mulberry comb. Next pic is him also...to note the cool colors

Now, the next 3 I am thinking def are all roo's. They were the GFF replacements and supposed to be the same age as the above but the
first shipment froze...:(

The single above looks like a roo too...huh????

I am going to rename my farm to Flock o Cocks farm! LOL

the peach goldens pictured above are not mine...however i know the breeder...same thing with the silver goldens they are not mine...however three just hatched from those birds and they are mine...i shall get some baby pics...i just opened the hatcher and these is like five more sitting in there...and another cinnamon as well...really excited about the pheasants...

BEAUTIFUL BIRD...VERY NICE FOR A START POINT...THE BIRDS WILL CHANGE AS THEY GROW AS WELL...BOSS (BLACK SUNFLOWER SEEDS AND PAPRIKA IS SUPPOSED TO HELP WITH THE BLACK IN BIRDS...FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT..MINE ARE STARTING ON THE SUNFLOWER SEED TODAY

This guy has one clear toe...and a mulberry comb. Next pic is him also...to note the cool colors

WHEN HE GETS BIGGER YOU WILL SEE THE MULBERRY POP OUT MORE THEN WHAT IS RIGHT NOW..GREAT LOOKING BIRD THO. IF THEY HAVE CLEAR TOE NAILS THEY GROW OUT OF IT...IF THEY HAVE WHITE IT WILL BE THERE. ONCE YOU BREED FOR THIS TRAIGHT TO NOT BE IN YOUR FLOCK YOU WILL GET BETTER AND BETTER RESULTS...BE PATIENT WITH THE FIBRO BIRDS...AS THEY CAN ONLY GET BETTER WITH SELECTIVE BREEDING.

ARE THESE SVARTS...IF SO AND THEY ARE LIKE THREE WEEKS...THEN THEY SHOULD BE MALES. I WOULD WAIT ANOTHER WEEK AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL FOR SURE BY THEN... I WILL LOOK ON THE GFF SHIPMENT AND SEE WHAT I THINK FOR SEXES AND LET EVERYONE KNOW... SPEAKING OF GFF...THEY SENT ME A EMAIL SAYING THEY WILL NOT BE SHIPPING THIS WEEK...THEY ONLY WANT TO SEND ME QUALITY BIRDS WITH NO COLORING, PEN 16 STOPPED LAYING FOR THE PAST MONTH, AND ONCE THEY START LAYING AGAIN I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET SOMETHING...PROBLEM WITH THIS...IS THAT SOON THE POST OFFICE IS GOING TO BE NOT LETTING BIRDS THRU BECAUSE OF THE HEAT...SO MY GUESS IS AFTER SUMMER...WHICH IS A SHAME...HOW HARD IS IT TO GET A COUPLE OF BIRDS WITH FIBRO TRAIGHTS.....OBVIOUSLY NOT EASY IF THEY CANT FILL SUCH A SMALL ORDER...I WAS SUPER EXCITED TO RAISE THESE FIBRO BIRDS BUT MY INTEREST IS DWINDLING THATS FOR SURE...WITH ALL THE COMPLICATIONS...I JUST WISHED THE FIRST BATCH WOULD HAVE ARRIVED ALIVE...I WOULD HAVE PROLLY ORDERED ANOTHER BATCH AND HAD THEM BY NOW...BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO...NADA...SEE YOU GUYS SOON

ALSO ON THE SVARTS FROM GFF...ITS INTERESTING TO SEE THE WHITE UNDER THEIR FACE...WONDER IF THEY WILL GROW OUT OF IT....THE CEMANIS ARE WAY DARKER THEN THE SVART HONAS ...I SHALL TAKE SOME PICS WITH SOME NOTES..HOPEFULLY...WELL SEE HOW THINGS GO...SEE YAH GUYS

Yes, the little guys arrived the Thursday before Easter. Sunflower and paprika will make them darker???or help with their sheen? They certainly are pretty cool. They love to perch...when I try and hold them they jockey themselves onto my arm and perch.

Pardon my ignorance - what is a 'fibro' bird?

short for Fibro Melanistic.... in birds (it does occure in mammals) in birds the Comb and skin will be black and the inside of their mouths will be black.... and in many cases so will their muscles and bones.

A common Melanistic bird is the silky... Though not as extreme as the Svart Honas or the Ayam Ceminis.... I believe also Sumatras tend to be Melanistic as well...

Also its not limited to the birds most people recognize as having this trait... It can pop up within any breed.... and in varying degrees.

The most expensive ones have been bred specifically for the darkest traits.
