Do you have a bully breed?

Yes, when dogs don't get along, it is not something that can be resolved overnight. It took an entire year to learn what triggers my dogs, what their intent is, and how to prevent injury. That year was one of the most stressful of my life!

And I just remembered that year was 2020 of all years! 😩
OMG talk about stressful!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Nah, you didn’t!!!!!!!! No more than me!!!!!!! LOL I found it interesting. Especially the obedience part. I hadn’t really considered that before but I imagine it does make it easier if you can call one off on the way before they even get to the other dog or even before they even start moving towards them or considering it LOL plus if they know there are consequences for behaving that way and/or positive reinforcement for NOT doing that. LOL I imagine it makes fights or even small vocal scuffles or harsh (dog to dog) corrections or whatever a lot less frequent. For example, the first and only time we ever took one of my brother’s dog to a dog park, she was still pretty young and the park was still pretty new (I believe it is better now… I know someone else who goes regularly lol) and there was this one dog that was just chasing all the other dogs around and so aggressive. It pinned my brother’s dog who was still basically a puppy (I think around a year or maybe a little bit less) and then chased this other dog around and around the trash can and the other dog jumped up like on a bench to get away. And I think it chased another dog too. And the owners only ever grabbed the dog and held him to the side very briefly like “now *name*, you need to calm down!” And then let him go again. Like they thought it was funny or was just playing or something. We left after that. They should have too. The first incident. Oh and I think it went and barked at a kid outside the fence too who was luckily up on someone’s shoulders. I think it was a Chessie or Lab. Or a mix. But I would never take an aggressive dog to a dog park to begin with but if I DID then when I saw it being aggressive, I WOULD HAVE LEFT. WE have never been back LOL and I know this is exactly why people say dog parks are bad especially for young dogs but at the time we didn’t know better and also, again, I believe it is a lot better now and there is a good group that goes regularly including the person I know. Much better when the dogs know each other or at least most of the other dogs and people I think are much more aware now lol but now IM rambling. :hide my point was how training could have helped that situation because they could have either LEFT when he wanted to play OR at least said NO! Or SOMETHING!!!!! Not just “you need to calm down” as if he fully understands English or is even listening in that state LOL but I am not trying to be a jerk because he could have been newly adopted or something (yes people around here take newly adopted dogs to dog parks and dog events etc.) but still.
Yeah I’ll be the jerk, that’s so irresponsible, inconsiderate, and rude. If you have a dog that is like that it SHOULD NOT be allowed around dogs off leash. No excuses.

Yeah solid obedience I feel like is key. I can recall Chase out mid play with another dog and chasing a cat/toy. If I have that level of obedience with a dog, I’m confident that I could recall them off a dog in an aggressive state.

Yeah I 100000% agree!!!!!!! He should not have been there. Work with a trainer and then maybe come back LOL or never.

And that’s amazing!!!!!! Brew ignores me mid play LOL or used to. IDK what he would do now.

I miss having a puppy LOL but at the same time, I don’t and I am glad Brew is 5 now and chill lmaooooo except with other dogs. He and his new best friend play constantly 🤣 in between naps. But she is also only a year old or maybe just under it so still very energetic so I’m sure she prompts him into play too. LOL but anyways, I’m glad Brew is older and calmer now. I used to be able to walk him morning and evening and then go to Club all day and he was 100% fine and slept all day unless my dad or stepmom let him out on nice days for 1-2 or 3 hours depending. Not even long walks either. Sometimes they would be but not every time. Only time he would get into trouble is if I didn’t walk him before I left. And even then, he never destroys anything like shoes, etc.. Just pulls out a singular paper plate and licks it clean LOL like “Mom, you left and I got bored and also am mad you didn’t walk me” LOL but he was HELL as a puppy/adolescent. He wasn’t even really a bad dog, he actually was quite good, never ate anything he shouldn’t or had accidents or anything like that, but he was SO energetic and high drive. Like EXTREMELY LOL LUCKILY! We had several dog friends at the time and they would come to the house or we would go their house (back when I drove) and they would just play for hours sometimes! LOL or at least an hour usually. And most of it was RUNNING! Especially at the house we sold. There was a giant “bowl” shape in the yard and then a large hill above that and also lots of woods so they would often zoom around and around the “bowl” or go up the huge hill and then back down into the bowl or into the woods and back out (I was watching them) or whatever. And then at the house we moved into, it was fenced at the time so they used to have lots of fun tearing around in there too without worry. At the time he wasn’t fixed yet so I used to worry he or his friends would get loose. So the fence was nice. Now he’s older and neutered 3 years ago so I don’t worry as much now LOL he’s a good boy. But he also really doesn’t have any friends anymore. Poor guy LOL at least none that come over. But now he has a new best friend in his current home but still. We also used to hike CONSTANTLY when I could drive in various terrain and he would play with as many dogs on the trail as he could (would catch him if they didn’t want him approaching) so that was A LOT of running too. And we would usually hike for at least a couple hours. Sometimes if it was a particularly dog friendly area or like a dog park type of place (but not an actual dog park), I would stay and let him play a while. Wore him right out. LOL I didn’t take him to actual dog parks but there’s a very large field near my dad’s house and at the end is a very small beach that’s mostly considered a “dog beach” so we would stop there a few times. There were also more wooded trails. Anyways, we hiked a LOT. LOL we used to do 2 mile leash walks too. Or long line walks. Eventually e collar. He needed those LONG walks or those runs (hikes). In addition to that, we also played with the flirt pole and bite rag, fetch, I used to train a lot of tricks, etc. etc. and he was still crazy LOL he calmed down a lot with age and neutering. But I used to think maybe he was part Malinois before I did the DNA tests. :lau I also thought pointer or like GSP cause he pointed one time LOL but perfect point. Then I thought maybe husky or hound with his nighttime vocals during crate training LOL I was right about one thing… the hound part. :lau but yeah. He’s sooooooo much calmer now. I don’t think I could handle another puppy Brew LOL he was SO cute but SO much work. And I cried several times. I had the puppy blues BAD! LOL BUT! I got over it and did what I had to do for him and now I am GLAD that I did because he is an AMAZING dog now. He always was but now he listens to me and he’s not crazy LOL
