Sorry, I can't be help...I've never seen anything like that before...the leg almost looks like the blood supply is compromised, the way it's darker colored & swollen-looking. I'm hoping someone else can help you out? Good luck

Ouch... that leg does look swollen pretty bad. I'm not too sure what you can do for it really since it's the whole leg. you can try making a sling to hold it up, but if it doesnt right itself in a week or so...

I sent some pics to My Pet Chicken, where I got my chicks through and they told me they found a post on here saying to give my chick some aspirin to help with the swelling and pain. They of course can't diagnose as theya re not doctors. Which I completely understand. They were underdstanding and helpful and that is all I asked for. I will try the aspirin and see if this helps her. We have her separated from the other chicks so they won't step on her and we hold her to the waterer and feeder so she is not trying to hop around.

the link that MPC gave me about the aspirin post was for a grown chicken, does someone know the recommended dose for a 4 day old chick??

Well, it looks as though this will probably be a permanent disability. I'm not sure that we'll be able to give the care necessary to support a special needs chicken. If anyone local is interested in caring for this chick, give us a PM or post a reply. She is full of spunk and is otherwise healthy. I do not want to cull but might be looking for humane methods of doing so.

I'm sorry for your chick and if i were closer i would take her, we are no strangers to special needs. If you want a humane way to put her down i suggest starter fluid w/ ether in an airtight container. she will peacefully go to sleep. just make sure you don't open it too early or she may revive. I hope you find a home for her though. good luck.

thank you sammi!! I have posted my worries so hopefully I can get this resolved! My chick seems to be doing a little better as far as eating and drinking more. She still can't get around very well. I have tried the aspirin water but I am not sure if it is strong enough or if it is working at all. I put a baby aspirin in 1/2 gallon of water. Should it be stronger?

We are definitely no strangers to taking care of special needs animals! It is just that both my husband and I work all day 5 days a week. And if this chick needs to be held to eat and drink, she would surely die from starvation and dehydration. We can't bring ourselves to cull this chick. It would be easier if the chick were fully grown. Babies, I can't do it. So please, if anyone is near the area and would love to take care of this chick, please let us know!!

Big bummer. We had to put her down this morning. Health went downhill a bit and she had bone protruding on both legs (we originally only saw it on one leg, but I looked again and could see it on both). Pretty sure it was indeed a slipped achiles tendon.

Wish we could have done more, but she was suffering. Thanks for your help everyone!
