Bumble foot?

Far as I know yes you can use the same dip for mulitple birds and if I am not mistaken use the same dip for 5 days check the instructions on the package. That is the reason for cleaning the feet prior to dipping, to keep the solution clean as possible. Also I might try and break down to 1/2 gallon and put in sm container. Only because I am very frugal.

I have read on here people doing the quart size so I am not the only one. This stuff is not cheap IMO but if it works would be worth it's weight in gold to me. Just make sure you use Distilled water I also read not such good results with tap. Something to do with minerals or chemicals in tap water that is counter productive.
Good luck!

Well, I'm going to try and do the worst foot tonight. Wish me luck, I wasn't able to find anyone to help me. I'll be going on this mission solo. I'm doing the one because it's really bad and I don't want to wait till I get the koi dip. Eeek. I have butterflies...

Well, it's done. I hope I did everything OK. I'm taking a break, just got showered after the "procedure" and my clothes, even the apron are in the wash. I'm giving my girl a little break too before I offer food and water. Right now she's in my chick brooder, which has been washed and prepped for her. She has a nice bed of hay for the night.

Wish me luck that she's better tomorrow. I'll probably give her another day of R&R before heading out with the rest of the flock.

Good luck! Wrap the chick in a towel to keep calm, and when doing the soak pre surgery I have read it helps to put the chicken in the bath tub with the feet in a smaller container with the solution in it and turn the lights out.

Yep, my chick brooder is a huge rubbermaid container. And I did soak her feet before, that was the longest part right there! And the hardest. She didn't like it all!!

I have done worse. I'm pretty good with blood, and there wasn't too much of it. Now barf, that's a whole 'nother story. LOL I work in a preschool and do double duty in the baby room. I keep extra clothes at work, just in case.

I just treated one of my hens for bumble foot last week and am happy to report that the surgery was a complete success!

Here was her foot before the surgery:

I soaked her foot in a strong solution of epsom salts (warm water) for about 5 minutes, then soaked her foot in chlorhexadrine (all from the drugstore). This made the pad of her foot soft and disinfected. Using a sterile box cutter with a new blade, I cut out the brown plug and gently lifted it out of her foot with sterile tweezers - the gunk looked like an acorn

I cleaned out the wound with a sterile gauze soaked in chlorhexadrine, dried it with more gauze, slathered on some neosporin, then made a bandage of gauze, vet-wrap and duct tape.

DH was holding my hen during this time, she was loosely wrapped in a towel to keep her from moving - it must have been painful since she pooped!

My hen was up and running with less pain a few minutes later, it was miraculous! that abscess must have been killing her

I kept her in isolation for a day, and repeated the cleaning and new bandage the next day. She then free-ranged with no limp.

Again two days later for another cleaning and a new bandage, and 3 days later the bandage came off and her foot looks good as new - not a single sign there was ever anything wrong with it.

Of course I have to keep a close eye on her as you never know what can pop back...

GOOD LUCK and let us know how it goes with your girls!

Thank you for that! I was up tossing and turning last night thinking about my poor girl. I'm so glad yours made full recovery.
