Bumble Pics

This is going to sound very unconventional however I got Peking ducks 2 years ago and when I got them they had bumble foot so bad. I had an in ground pool that we didn't use anymore and it still had a lot of chlorine in it. My husband and I did research to see if it would harm the ducks and in our findings it was perfectly fine if the chlorine was low as it prevented bacteria build up and helped with the poop. Believe it or not in 1 week all of the ducks bumble foot was gone. If you are using a small plastic kids pool put in 1/4 cup of pool chlorine and stir it around really good before letting them enter it. They are also always nice and white. The vet told us that there skin was fine and not dried out from it, go figure. We have never had an issue with bumble foot since. I am not a vet and like I said you can research this for yourself before using. I hope this helps out I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!
Thanks. It doesn't hurt them when they drink it?

Please check with your vet before adding any sort of bleach to their water. I think household bleach can be used to purify drinking water, but pool bleach is very concentrated and I think it might not be safe.

I know in the readings I found on the web that ducks will go in neighborhood pools and public pools as well and it is said they will get out if the bleach is to much or keep swimming if they are not irritated. I have 6 ducks swimming in my pool for 2 years and yes they drink it also. I do keep a separate drinking bowl for them next to their feed. You only want to use a small amount and if you have city water its already what you and your animals are drinking. We use household bleach for our well water but we use additional bleach in the pool. Please note that we have a 5 foot deep pool and 8 feet long, so again use caution and common sense if you use bleach. If you can smell it 10 minutes after you put it in then it is probably to much. This is merely a suggestion and I have an avian vet who comes to our property every 6 months for a wellness check and he said they are healthy and look great! This has never affected there eggs either.

Can you call your avian vet and ask them if it's okay?
