I know in the readings I found on the web that ducks will go in neighborhood pools and public pools as well and it is said they will get out if the bleach is to much or keep swimming if they are not irritated. I have 6 ducks swimming in my pool for 2 years and yes they drink it also. I do keep a separate drinking bowl for them next to their feed. You only want to use a small amount and if you have city water its already what you and your animals are drinking. We use household bleach for our well water but we use additional bleach in the pool. Please note that we have a 5 foot deep pool and 8 feet long, so again use caution and common sense if you use bleach. If you can smell it 10 minutes after you put it in then it is probably to much. This is merely a suggestion and I have an avian vet who comes to our property every 6 months for a wellness check and he said they are healthy and look great! This has never affected there eggs either.

I am so incredibly jealous that you have a traveling avian vet!!! Lucky! Our closest chicken vet is 120 miles away. We have ONE vet tech, an hour away who grew up on a poultry farm, and is willing to *look* at chickens, and that's it. Chicken owners are completely on their own out here.

He said it was fine. Just don't swim in there with them lol. He also wanted me to state that I live in Florida and the chlorine dissipates in 3 days because of the heat. He also said that lots of animals can tolerate the chlorine in low doses. Here is a pick of my ducks you can see it is a low amount of chlorine and the pool is green.

I know it is great, there are a lot of bird conservatories here and farms so traveling vets are common. I used to live in upstate NY and there was nothing for birds just large livestock.

Here in our part of NC where there are farms there isn’t a vet for even live stock. We’re in our own here too. I am just thankful. There is BYC there are some experienced members here.

BYC is great! There are so many people with great advice and experience . I love reading about all the advice. It would be very costly to have my vet come out for every little thing so this works out.
