bumblefoot or not

Is there a brownish spot in the center? It's not always a rough, black scab like you see in the photos. It would be great if you could post a pic. My personal rule of thumb is to treat as early as possible if I think it is bumblefoot. That has worked for me, but it sounds like Dawg53 might has a different philosophy. And I'm not sure what to tell you without seeing it.

There's no marks on it at all. It's just its foot colour? I can't take a pic just yet. I'm just curious as to whether we should soak them or not to see if it helps? As I say there are no marks at all on them. We just thought it was normal as a couple of them have them. They are all pretty tame and friendly so soaking them would be an option if need be.

I think I am just being a worried mum! I think I am going to stop reading this section. There's so many horrible things that chickens can get and it's scary!!!!! Thanks for your help.

Every little sneeze at the moment and I'm awake worrying! I'm going to be a crazy chicken lady when I'm old. Or crazier!

I know, right? It gets better, though, as you become familiar with the common chicken maladies, and learn by experience what to ignore and what to jump on. Good luck and have fun with them!

A couple of our hens have lumps on the bottom of their feet. One of them has quite a big lump it's not red or anything and the hen isn't limping or acting unwell. Do you think it should just be left alone?

Lumps on the feet other than bumblefoot could possibly be gout or possibly could be caused by mycoplasma synoviae (MS.) However with MS there are usually respiratory and other symptoms. Additionally, there are times that there might be "pre-bumblefoot," which may not require any treatment at all even if there's a scab. As long as there's no redness, no swelling, nor the bird limping...just let it go and observe the bird. I believe this was mentioned in an earlier post in this thread. Pics would help.
