8:00 am Sunday morning I heard peeps in my barn loft. Unknown to me, a hen hatched eggs. I went up with a cat carrier to get them down, putting the hen, the unhatched eggs, and chicks in it. There were 4 chicks that had fallen down between the hay bale and wall. Two were alive, 2 dead. It was 45 degrees in the morning. She had a total of 8 live chicks. I put the 2 dead chicks on top of the carrier, to get them out of the loft. I placed the dead in the wheel barrel under some muck, so that the dogs didn't nab them.

I took the hen & chicks to the chicken coop. After candling the eggs, I tossed them.

Sunday, at around 4pm, I was feeding the horses and heard a peep. I went back into the loft, thinking I missed a chick, but nothing. I was back working in the barn and heard the peeps again. Apparently, one of the chicks that I thought was dead, was almost dead and the warm muck in the wheel barrel brought it back to life! There was a live chick peeping under 2 inches of horse poop. I took it out, dusted it off and put it under the hen. All is well!

That little chick has a story to tell!

That is a miracle...that is a very inspiring story...thanks for sharing it....

I vote that that's the chick you keep, give a cute name, and give a life of mollycoddling! What a great story!
