I have 9 six week old button quail. 3 of them being white, solid white. How do you tell if they are hen or roo when they are solid colored?

Hi Tiffany~
Well, other than watching their behaviors and listening for crowing, you can try to vent-sex them. The females have a bigger vent than the males (pick one of your colored males to compare) and if you flip them over and gently squeeze on either side of the vent, a male's anatomy will pop out. It's small, but will be noticeable compared to a female.
I had one white one too, and I thought it was a female until I saw it mating... I was wrong. :|

I'd never done it before, either... it's not hard, just takes practice.

Psst... just don't squeeze TOO hard...

Ok, just for the record, I am not good a vent sexing. I have no idea what in the world I was looking at other than a quail's butt!!! I compared my male to my female and lordy I couldn't tell the difference. I didn't see any thing"pop" out either other than poop..

even worse than cutting the diarrhea fuzz off my silkies butts!

Thanks for the laugh

You have to sort of pinch on either side of the vent and try to turn it inside out...

it's hard to do.

If you see/hear any of them "laughing" at you, those are likely males... whistle TWEEEE twee twee...

I have two white ones separated and was wondering the same thing! But I'm just going to be patient and wait...ewwww just the thought of doing that...
