Hope youre right about it being dead Jenn.

The Sen. is from the 24th (St. Louis). This was a shot across the bow (died of course). They'll be at it again, RSN, to similar effect. One of the reasons I like it here.

I'm a liberal who will probably never own a gun. I think, however, that bills like these are gutless attempts by well-meaning politicians to make some progress on the persistent problem of gun violence.

Other countries, like Japan, England, and Canada, have prevented gun violence through a long history of prohibiting gun ownership. Those countries, however, have other types of violence.

Altering gun ownership laws will never fly here in the USA. There are simply too many guns out in the population, both legal & illegal, to make a realistic dent in gun violence.

The truth is that if there were an easy answer to preventing gun violence, we already would have implemented it.

I agree with you, there is no easy fix. But criminals dont get thier guns legally anyway, so tougher gun laws doesnt effect them anyway.

Yep. If you're going to break rules, one more gun rule isn't going to stop you. You hear of all the gun violence, but rarely hear of the stories where a legally armed citizen prevents it.

Knife crime is esculating here in the Uk...gun crime is very rare....but it still happens people get shot...usually gangs and drug related...and the guns are illegally imported somhow....

From the words of the greasest dem. that ever took a breate on this earth

guns are a right (not a privilage)
without them a governent will forget it is to serve the people,

Hey CW I think ya meant GREATEST. And you are correct there.

Dont quote me on this, but I think it was Gorbechev (Russian Pres. when Reagan was our president) told then President Reagan, the only reason the continental U.S. wasnt ever invaded was the fact that almost every home had a gun, meaning they would have to fight everyone of us!

I am also doing some checking into this, but here in Mo. Things like this dont fly very well. Usualy when the word gets out who represented the bill, there not back for another term, (unless its a big city guy) .

Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill.

U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., is hoping to pass a firearm-licensing bill that will significantly rewrite gun-ownership laws in America.

Among the more controversial provisions of the bill are requirements that all handgun owners submit to the federal government a photo, thumb print and mental heath records. Further, the bill would order the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer and owner's address in America.

The bill claims its purpose is "to protect the public against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of firearms to criminals and youth."

Columnist David Codrea of Guns Magazine, however, calls it a "ridiculous affront to liberty."

"This is nothing less than a declaration of war on American gun owners," Codrea writes on Gun Rights Examiner.
