BYC Aquarium Thread

Ooh! I may be able to post about my tank soon! I am helping a friend at her grooming shop in the back of a mom n pop aquarium shop. One of the customers GAVE them a 55gallon set up and she said I can have it! My hubby kind of gave me the exasperated eye roll over it, but that just means I wait a week and bring it home anyway...so, a little about me and my fishy past:

Watchdogps

Nno tanks currently, but used to have up to ten varying in size

Favorites are heavily planted tanks with tetras and rainbows. I also like oddballs, like mudskippers and rope fish. Can't keep a tiger barb alive to save my soul.

Worked at aquarium stores for five years during and after high school.

Username: chickens? not yet

Years keeping fish: about 31 years

A few species you have kept: Catfish, Cichlids, Labyrinths, Live-bearers, Loaches, Rainbowfish, Pufferfish,Bristlenose pleco, Have kept several different salt water fish. I grew up on a catfish farm.

Favorite Species: To many to list!!

How many tanks do you currently have: Only one,had 4, 55 gallon, planted tanks and a 135 saltwater, I was hurt last May and can't take care of them properly so sold the saltwater tank & one of my 55 gallon. The others are empty and waiting on me to get well!

How many tanks do you currently have: 1, 55 gallon

Do you have other creatures besides fish?Have had Fresh & saltwater shrimps, snails, all kinds of corals, anemones one that started eating my fish so he had to go, a rock crab that came in on some live rocks, he ate muscles off of a stick, he was so much fun!!

Any Advice for people new to fish keeping? Make changing some water every week a must!!!! Get a phython, they make water changings so much easier!! ENJOY! ENJOY! ENJOY!!

I now have 4 Bala Sharks I've had for 9 years (they won't die) 2 Clown Loaches also that old, 6 Bristlenose pleco.
Would post pictures but for some reason I can't seem to post any, several have told me how, it just doesn't do it!!

Does anyone else actually like snails? I know a lot of people hate them but I've found them to be a great addition when populations are kept in control.

I love the golden and brown larger snails, and I had the cone shaped snails in my planted tanks. The little round ones are the problematic ones.

Quick Question, What can I put in a 5 gallon aquarium that is filtered. I've had glofish but find them too fast, and I've had bettas. I'm thinking a betta but I was wondering if I can add something else to the tank (snails?) Or could I possible get 2 goldfish? I have a goldfish pond they can go into if they get too big for the tank.
