BYC Café

Had a nice little thunder boomer roll thru earlier, spit a bit of rain.
Now the sky is black with much more coming thru.

Looks like something worked on the ground nest overnight.
Saw a few guards around a tiny hole in the bottom of the dug hole last night. This morning that tiny hole is covered and only one wasp(?) down there. Still wondering what these wasps are, they look much smaller than the yellow jackets I've seen before.

My 1 year old granddaughter got stung by a bumble bee yesterday. DIL said there’s been a nest out by the house all summer, and they typically just fly around, minding their manners and visiting the flowers. Yesterday while she and the kids were out, they started acting “really aggressively” and went after DIL. So she picked up the baby to bring her in, and one flew right up off the ground, onto her head and stung her. Baby is fine. DIL said it was just bizarre how they started acting like that without provocation.

Good morning and thanks for the coffee!
I hung my laundry out and it rained! :yesss:
The cherry jam is canned and I do not think that I need to go anywhere this week, so some serious firewood work is on deck.
I think it will be safe to plant some radishes now. DH pulled all of the lettuce and we have one more serving each and that will be gone.
There does not seem to be a normal amount of wasps for us this year. Or flies or mosquitoes. It was/is a desert out there!
I can see the trees dying in droves from the Bud beetle, which attacks the short-needled pines and the Ips beetle, which goes for the middle-length needled pines. Next year will be a wake-up call for most people up here that are blind to the nature of where they live.
Enjoy the day, Cafe! Stay cool, safe, and resting (DL)!
