My 1 year old granddaughter got stung by a bumble bee yesterday. DIL said there’s been a nest out by the house all summer, and they typically just fly around, minding their manners and visiting the flowers. Yesterday while she and the kids were out, they started acting “really aggressively” and went after DIL. So she picked up the baby to bring her in, and one flew right up off the ground, onto her head and stung her. Baby is fine. DIL said it was just bizarre how they started acting like that without provocation.Had a nice little thunder boomer roll thru earlier, spit a bit of rain.
Now the sky is black with much more coming thru.
Looks like something worked on the ground nest overnight.
Saw a few guards around a tiny hole in the bottom of the dug hole last night. This morning that tiny hole is covered and only one wasp(?) down there. Still wondering what these wasps are, they look much smaller than the yellow jackets I've seen before.
Yellow jackets become more aggressive later in the season when the next year's reproductives are being raised. Perhaps it's the same with bumblebees?said it was just bizarre how they started acting like that without provocation.
Maybe.Good morning, Cafe'.
