BYC Café

Good morning, coffee is much needed today; kinda dreary here.

I see I missed all sorts of interesting conversation yesterday. When my daughter was in China last month she sent a picture of the chicken leg she was eating, with the feet attached. I told her not to eat it! And I had a cat that used to bite the head off of chipmunks and eat those first, double yuck!

My dad's family had a "ranch", as opposed to a "farm". They only raised animals, no fruits or vegetable, other than a family plot. We wrapped beef every summer, my dad butchered chickens, I watched pigs being butchered. My dad also remembers butchering old work horses, which were then ground up and used for feed for other animals. I don't think he cared for that, however, you don't get a choice. I've also watched many animals be "pelted" which is kinda cool; a special machine peels the skin right off. The smell, on the other hand, is rather overpowering, and stil lingers in the building 40 years later....

Yes we lean heavily toward ranch, and I think without FILs influence we would be a ranch. DH just prefers the grass and cows to tractor work. But fortunately we do not butcher here.
My father often butchered his own deer, so I have a decent idea of the work involved, and the smell :sick

DS@ said it was boring at night. I am not sure why they are not hitting it hard this am. It is going to blow up again with the predicted winds of 30mph. I do not know but I really need to get a horse trailer from the other side and get ready to get those horses Wed.

Smoked pigs feet make great bean soup
Oh come on....
I'd eat snake.....but i ainy eating no squirrel brains.
My cat still does....and eats em
