BYC Café

Good morning everyone.
Raining pretty heavily today. Much needed but a little too late to help the garden much.
Glad you've got some peace & quiet now Capricorn and that it was safe for your family to return home.
Thanks for the awesome food NFC. Hmmmm
My chainsaw decided to go on the fritz yesterday. Of course. I really need to start getting wood ready for winter. I don't know about where you all live, but here a cord of wood costs $500.
Great Wednesday to all.

They probably have a list a mile long for repairing chain saws. My husband works on his own, but sometimes needs help. The parts are ridiculously expensive.

Wow, that much. Between 100 to 200 where I am in Texas. Depends on the wood.

hard or soft?

Here a true full cord is about $250 if it is cut to length, not split. Split costs more.
We don't have many options here. What is readily available is poplar and birch. A few places offer tamarac as well.
My neighbours have huge piles of wood from when they cleared an area on their land to build their house. It's just a matter of cutting and splitting it. Oh yeah, and finding the time to do it.

What do you guys do with excess eggs? I only work with a handful of people who rarely if ever want any. I've been feeding my 2 pigs 8 a day but I'm still getting more than I know what to do with. I bake an egg bread almost daily but as I live off grid solar it's going to get hard to do as the sun lowers on the horizon.

I've fed some back to my chickens (they love scrambled eggs...no butter, salt/pepper or milk added to them). In the past we've also made egg nog, delish, much better than any you can buy. I bake a lot too so custards, etc. are good.
