I just hate to see the lovely green plants turn brown or black. My green beans are flowering.

I drove through Kansas on January and saw a brown winter. Here in California, summer is brown and we will often have green grass in winter!

I hope you get to keep some green for a bit longer

We are already past the average first frost date, but coming from Florida i am spoiled! I want to build a cold frame if i get a minute. Guess i need to sleep so i can get up in the morning. Good night, have a wonderful rest.

It is interesting to look at generational differences though. The one before the Boomer was called Traditional. They lived through the depression and had the boomers around WW II. They are a lot different! Then the Boomers. I am at the end of the boomers so I do not quite fit in to that

I have found that fascinating. ... the very strong differences between the depression era people and the boomers...and all those that came after. I don't think the generational differences have been as large since the boomer group.

having stuff, and suddenly having very little stuff to no stuff, even if you work hard and save well. It makes a huge impact on how you deal with the world.

Having to do without has a major impact on your outlook. Mom's mantra was, "Waste not, want not." As she aged I had to take her to her lawyer to assure her that she would not run out of money. Doing without makes you cautious with your money and a saver - did to me anyway. Many today have never done without, or saved for that special thing they wanted. In many ways we live in an era of instant gratification.

Things are well frosted around here, this weekend needs to be the big garden clean up. Plant the garlic and prep for winter.

Unfortunately our wood stove is out of commission and the guy who was supposed to come fix it seems to have dropped the ball and hasn't gotten the parts in yet. I believe he's going to reduce the price which is good, but I don't like paying for propane when we don't need to.
