Dominiques have better personalities than Barred Rocks. Roos are WAY nicer.

Not sure how they compare with egg laying...think about the same.

That makes sense. And I think Dominiques were the original, before the Rocks? It's a shame the Dominiques aren't more popular. I wonder why that is?

Although I will say, I bet from a good breeder the Rocks could be pretty nice and there might not be as much of a difference between them as there is in hatchery stock? Or maybe it's just a breed thing?

Now I want to try Dominique haha aren't they small though? Is the size an issue?

The females are slimmer than average for better feed conversion....but not by much.
Males still get big enough to make a decent meal.

My favorite breed of all time, if I HAD to have only one, would be my Appenzeller Spitzhauben. Awesome personalities, no aggression from the roosters, and good egg laying. .white. Medium sized eggs though. I got mine from a breeder...so faaaaaaaancy colors. Love them.View attachment 1187081 View attachment 1187078

I guess I was worried about integrating them with bigger chickens. For some reason I was under the impression that they were smaller or even bantam size? Maybe I was thinking of a different breed.

And I'm sure you already have but have you tried melatonin or anything or just staying in bed and not getting up?
