BYC Café

Sounds like y'all went the whole nine yards. Jacuzzi and all is nice but I'm worried about drowning myself in a big tub. Kinda why I'm leaning towards a big walk-in shower with all the hand rails and such for some day in the future when it may come in handy. :)

Yup! Although I think we found the tub cheap on Craigslist or something so that's why we got this particular one. It's a lot nicer than our previous tub which was one of those old tub/shower combos with the plastic one piece walls hah and downstairs shower was also totally plastic and tiny. The upstairs bathroom though we actually took out the tub years ago when my older brother was still in high school (he graduated in 2009) and we had a bunch of his football friends over to help. Or maybe he was just barely in college, idk exactly. And my dad started tearing stuff up too so we just had plywood subfloor in like half the bathroom and the corner with the tub the wall was just studs too. I guess cause it was just tub and no wall? They don't put walls under tubs? So yeah. And we had this big ugly old vanity lol. And in the corner with the shower, we just had a tiny closet. Of course full of junk lol and one junky plywood shelf. And the tile was this ugly white or something tile and the walls oh it was this vile freakin green sub tile on half the wall and paint on the top half. So stupid and ugly. Oh i soooo wish i had gotten before pictures lol so yeah it was quite a disaster for years.

Downstairs was white tile with smaller black squares and this like oak maybe? Vanity with this ugly blue top. I think it was fake stone or something? Idk exactly.

So definitely nice to have new bathrooms lol

I found some silkies that needed rehoming because their owner is moving. They're already a year old. Now let's just pray that they go broody lots! Gotta get those eggs hatching!

Yup. They're all hens :)

Aww awesome and great they're hens!

Morning! Sipping here too. DS$ did not survive yesterday so he is on the support crew. I think he is irritated with himself and is ready to get back to work. The finals should be amazing to watch. Ron, enjoy the time with your family!
Our bathroom upstairs needs attention as well. It is the original setup, but then again, most of this house is original..., sigh.
I guess when all of the DSs have flown the coop, there will be time, maybe money, definitely blood, LOL!, cause I know I will ding or cut myself doing these projects.

Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with localized

Our bathroom was horrible for years lol

Where did your bathroom go?

We did not have access to the kitchen last summer because of floor and counter work. It was terrible!

My aunt had her kitchen torn apart for like 10 years or something cause she couldn't decide anything haha

I don't have one. Just a porta potty. Sponge baths with a pot of water heated on the bbq or the wood stove(I don't have a normal stove or oven )

Eeek I could never live like that!

I don't know how anyone can exist that way? You can tell I am a tenderfoot??? is that expression apt?

I couldn't either

So I got to meet my new nephew :love:love:love

He's so tiny, but doing ok.

He's having feeding issues, so until he matures enough he'll have to stay in the hospital.

Aww thats good but stinks he can't go back yet.

Pretty close. It's a drill site trailer. So there is a bedroom. The whole place is about 300 square feet. We don't have a well either, so have to haul in water.

Oh wow that sounds awful. Do you get enough rain for a rain collector?

Isn't that cruel and unusual punishment :rant

I would say so ha

So sorry you are living like that. Can't be much fun.

X2

This is our vacation property. I have a house in the city, but now we have animals tying us here. I also got a job out this way. Once I sell the house I'll have the $ to get a well drilled. Maybe even get a manufactured house.

Sorry! Hope you get it sold soon. Vacation? Is there much there? Can you have someone watch the animals?

I hope you can sell quickly. Sounds like the cabin MIL used to live in. Outhouse, haul water up from the lake. No washer or dryer, she used to boil kids diapers on the stove. I think they at least had oil heat. He worked for Cunards.

Sounds awful. And boiling diapers, eww lol

Do you live in a place that has a house selling season? Currently in California, you can sell a house anytime. Usually as soon as it hits the market. Housing Crisis!

That stinks! Some friends bought a house in L.A. I guess a couple years ago now (time flies) and idk how they afford it. Came from Florida cause more music connections and tons of their friends in L.A. All 4 of them live together. And possibly girlfriends/fiancees but I'm not sure. I suppose they might rent and not have bought it?? But they have a cat and 2 dogs, including one huge one, so I think maybe they own but I have no idea. But I imagine L.A. is expensive. It might not be in proper L.A. though.

I admire your pioneer spirit Michelle. Not many could do as you do. You have a strong work ethic and are willing to work hard to get what you want.

Best of luck on getting the house sold!

Agreed.

That is terrible about your Aunt not finishing the kitchen!

Houses are not as expensive in Woodland as the town South of us. They are a couple of thousand more for the equivalent house there. Same house in the bay area would be more than double.

Yeah, I think they just couldn't decide and/or were arguing about it hah I'd have to ask the exact time though

And oh wow that's crazy! I think it definitely depends on location. Like houses in New England especially Boston area and houses in or near NYC are crazy. But out near Erie PA where my mom's family is or Ohio it is a lot cheaper. And I sometimes look at land in Idaho and it is crazy cheap there! At least some parts. But you could get like hundreds of acres where here it might be like 10 or 20 hah of course not all areas are cheap. I guess Idaho has a lot of richer areas now where it's crazy, like million plus dollar homes

Good morning Cafe! Come and get your coffee or tea.

Still snowing here but we've had quite a bit of wind so hard to say how much. My brother & SIL are passing through town today on their way back home so the plan is to meet them for breakfast. If it weren't for that, I'd be staying inside today.

That sounds nice

Morning! About 3 inches of snow, not sure if we will get the storm total. It is still snowing but not hard and it feels cold. DH and I were using the tractor to load logs onto the sawmill yesterday. We got quite a few cut before the temperature started to drop, right around 3:30 PM. He was a tired boy with all of that outside time! We had a crew of people there to help with the boards for picnic tables, signs, shelves, benches, hearth decoration, and a kitchen countertop. There was a trailer of unspecified wood to go off and dry for later use. The next time we run the mill, there will be logs cut for us; flooring in the living room. We are going to put in a rustic floor there and the Ponderosa is a nice dense wood for pine. Some of these logs border on mahogany style dense. My neighbors are way cool and I love that way we all pitch in to get stuff done up here,

You have a mill!?

And that wood and those projects sounds awesome

I bet that Ponderosa wood is beautiful Margie! My dad was a woodworker and was always showing me his treasure trove of various woods he'd collect for projects. Nothing beats the smell of wood.

Great to have neighbors you can work on projects together with. Makes less work for everyone that way.

That's awesome! My grandpa likes making things

Hello Cafe folk! I am so addicted to BYC that if i wake up at night i have to look in. That is pretty bad!

Lol same with twitter and some other sites here

Good morning everyone
Foggy here this morning. It's-12c so we're going to get frozen fog. There's nothing more beautiful than fog frozen on trees in winter.

I've seen or heard of frozen fog

You're hopelessly hooked Cap

Here it's snow, snow and more snow (and could say the same for the wind). Frozen fog does look amazing (especially if you're standing inside looking out at it ;)). I think my chickens have decided to have an in-door day today, haven't seen a single one outside the coop yet.

Some of my birds are like that

Alberta is a boom or just province. It's heavily driven by oil. Because of the drop in oil prices we're in a bust. However, there is still a fair demand for small single family homes, which is what I have. Sadly, developers are buying up homes in our area, tearing them down and putting up duplexes or two places. If at all possible I'd like to prevent that. It would drop the value of all of the other houses in the neighborhood and it's such a beautiful, well established area. Our house was built in the 40s. Spring is definitely the main selling season here.

That stinks. I hope it picks up and hope you can keeo your area from developers.

Mornin', y'all!:frow

We've all heard the saying, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade," right? Well, not seeing any lemonade around here, but here's a guy whose bright idea brightened up a few others' night . . . .

LOL awesome

Good Morning Cafe peeps!
I finished up a sign last night...View attachment 1242674

Nice

This is the trailer. We closed in the porch, which doubles our living space 3 seasons out of the year.View attachment 1242742

It looks nice

That sounds fantastic Margie! The wood sounds absolutely gorgeous.
You can even make use of the trimmings from the logs. That's how I made my pigs' housing area. Going to use some again for my new coops this year too. Waste not... you know the rest.

Good idea

No but i am making some to take in to the consignment store. The Smith Mountain Lake people have lots of bucks.

I was watching flea market flip today and it's amazing what people pay for stuff. Junk but just repainted or repurposed etc.

I should have a litter of spring babies (bunnies)in 2 months. Looks like Trouble knows his stuff!

Awww

It's been steady, so that's a relief. When they tried him off the cpap at the other hospital he never had to go back on.
But he still thinks he should be fed passively, and isn't quite strong enough to feed more then once a day independently. But as he gets older and stronger he should be able to increase that, and once he's got the hang of it he can go home!
Hard to say how long that will be though.

That's awesome

Laundry done and folded. 2 trees planted, 3 rabbit cages scrubbed with SOS pads and rinsed. One door was on wrong so it got removed. Going to spray paint when dried, maybe tomorrow. Hubby carried the saw out to the work shop.
Went for a walk along the river and saw a neat piece of wood...

That is amazing tree! Are you going to cut it and do something with it or are you just going to leave it there?
