Snakes? Not too many, ( I know you guys find that hard to believe), just gardeners that come out in summer and eat bugs and minnows. Down on the plains, there are rattlesnakes though.
I think the most persnickety snake in the US is the Mojave Rattlesnake. They can get pretty cross.
So the question is, what are the Browns looking for in your coop? Shade? Eggs? Chickens? Rodents? And can you fix the reason? You guys win the nasty snake award hands down.

Hi everyone I am so glad to be here!
I really enjoy a cup of coffee flavored coffee!
I have read all of the posts here and I must admit I laughed, I tried, and I laughed again! ( ok so I put coconut oil in my coffee as that is all I had on hand to try.)
More on me in a minute I want to add my thoughts before I forget.

You know, I lived in New Hampshire for about 10 years, and have never seen a dang moose. We have moose on our license plates!

I have lived in Texas almost 11 years now and have yet to see a live armadillo!
And weird to me was most of the cowboys I have met here wear some sort of ball cap instead of stetsons. But the boots are huge! they go with everything even shorts and dresses. My daughter wore a $3000. formal wedding gown with yep cowboy boots!

It was 108F here yesterday and about 103F today.
I am slowly cooking from the inside out!
See and here I am thinking I need to summer here and winter there! I love the heat and cannot stand the cold!
Heat and Broody
Here are some of my high temp tricks I use cat litter pans and fill them with water the chickens stand in the water and it lowers their body temps as chickens hold much of their body temp in their feet.
Also chilled watermelon it has a high water content and my Ladies love it.
I used to do frozen corn cobs then I read that corn raises a chickens body temp and I stopped doing that .

for the broody you might try freezing some water bottles and putting them in her nest if it doesnt chase her out you will at least know she is not over heating.

Extra eggs...., I have looked into dehydrating them or freezing them
I do dehydrate my extra eggs. I use them for baking and even scrambled and they are still better than store bought. I recommend it

Nice snow (at my point in life) = oxymoron.
completely agree as I grew up in Michigan.

I live in Texas and I love it here except when it is cold. I love coffee from morning until night! In the heat of the summer I bring a thermos of coffee out and drink it in the pool. I have been a stay home wife and mother for nearly 28 years now. We have 5 children and My youngest will be 16 in April he is the only one left at home. I have 5 hens 2 roosters and house 5 hens for my 3 yr old granddaughter. We also have my moms 3 cats since she could no longer care for them 1 stray cat that lives indoors and 3 dogs. Of the pets I like the chickens best!
I am remodeling my old brooder to make it a chicken coop for a couple bantam Cochins and silkies. Since the household egg demand is down I can opt for breeds that are rated for cuddling not necessarily egg production.

Snakes I am not sure of all of them but I know we have copperheads, Rattle snakes, Rat snakes, water moccasins and garter or field snakes. My ladies eat any miniature or baby snakes each spring and in 10 years I have only seen 1 rattle snake in the yard.

I would say more rustic.... "We got used to kicksleds in the UP of MI back in our miss-spent youth," Seriously?! How else is a 50 + year old Grandma supposed to spend the day?

By the looks of that drive, any way you want to!

I'm only in my mid 60's and think that a trip down your drive would be a blast, at least once!

Yes, welcome! We lived in Texas for about 5 years near Austin, It was a bit too hot for me and when it got cold, boy it was the kind of humid cold that seeps into your bones. I will gladly take my dry 17 degree sledding weather and roll with it.
Coffee up cowgirls! And cowboys!
